A short case study video on the 360 video installation for the opening of UNIQLO’s first global flagship store in Southeast Asia and Singapore.
TMRRW conceptualised and designed a functional
‘human movement clock’ video installation.

We approached this project with UNIQLO’s brand philosophy in mind –
‘Simple made better’. Based on the concept of People + Motion = Time.
The installation was designed around 360° in-store video display
made out of 47 individual screens.

We filmed 10 talents different outfits doing a series of simple hand
movements, they move in and out of the screens systematically across
the entire circumference as an abstract representation of ‘mechanical’
motion. With that we’re able to create millions of permutations of ‘motion
patterns’ that synchronise each cycle in exactly one minute. With each
one minute cycle, 5 screens will be used to tell the exact time using
numbers on the back of their clothes.

You can literally see time moves across the day, as these 5
numbered screens will jump a screen forward every minute. The
background gradually changes its colour according to the time of
the day. We worked with a coder to write a generative software to
synchronise all these movements and make it come alive. As long as
its turn on, the clock will run perpetually moving run and run the store.

Not only it functions as a clock but personified it through the
synchronicity of human motion. It was designed to be non-intrusive
with no beginning or an end, regardless of the angle it is viewed from,
it is a simple idea that can be easily understood by everyone. It
becomes an integral part of a shopper’s experience in UNIQLO
without calling unnecessary attention to itself.
